An orchestra of 90 musicians selected by popular vote from over 3000 posted videos have played in Carnegie Hall.
The musicians posted videos of themselves playing music to the video website YouTube. These 3000 videos were whittled down to 200 finalists before being voted for by the viewers.
The BBC reported that the selection of musicians was incredibly diverse, reflecting the global reach of the website. Performers were flown in from 30 different countries and included members from betwen 15 to 55. YouTube is powered by user submissions of videos and this performance was built on customer selection of the performers. It represents an innovation in the area of Social Media. |
